It’s been a while since my last posting, so I thought I’d go over several topics.
The 2009 Grey Cup – That’s a full story in itself. My beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders lost to the Montreal Alouettes after time had expired, all because of a ridiculous but deserved penalty.
In the aftermath, a lot of people said that the Riders lost because of mistakes earlier in the game. I disagree a bit. Why? With those previous mistakes, the Riders had a chance to recover and keep on playing and scoring points – and they did. With the final penalty, the Riders’ only hope was to block the field goal, which was a long shot.
There is NO EXCUSE for a Too Many Men penalty. The Riders had been dinged for this penalty multiple times when on special teams during the season. I remember when I first got my season tickets in 1987, Too Many Men was a penalty that we NEVER got – it was always the other team that got nailed by it.
Christmas 2009 – This was a very special Christmas for me because I had my son over on Christmas Eve and for Christmas morning. He then visited with his mother until I picked him up for his regular weekend visit. We had a lot of fun! I went back home to Saskatchewan for New Year’s and had a lot of fun at my brother’s place.
Avatar – This moving is making a Titanic-sized load of money for James Cameron. I haven’t seen it yet, but would like to. It’s quite long, maybe too long even with all of the fancy 3D effects.
Johnny Carson – Watching the ordeal that Conan O’Brien is currently experiencing and seeing how much David Letterman admired Carson, I never realized how much I missed Johnny Carson. The guy was the standard by which all television hosts were and are to be measured. I hope Conan comes back and suceeds; I hope Leno fails miserably (he’s wasted a lot of goodwill because of his actions in all of this).
January Winter? – This January has been pretty mild compared to previous Januaries. I guess we were due. Having weather near freezing is a lot better than -40!
Looking forward to summer – I’m looking forward to summer. I will be golfing a bit more. I bought new golf shoes last year, but didn’t get a chance to try them out. I also got a new golf bag for free through a points program from a restaurant I visit. It’s an awesome bag with lots of pockets and cool features. My brother and his family (plus my sister) will be coming in for a week in July; my brother, his friend and I will be playing in a golf tournament.
2010 Riders – With Eric Tillman unfortunately gone, we now have Taman as our GM. Luckily, Coach Miller has been made VP of Football Operations (as well as being Head Coach). So, our Head Coach is our General Manager’s boss!
I’m not a fan of Taman, but I hope he succeeds in his position. The Riders have to work on signing some players who are going to be free agents at 12:01am on February 16th. John Chick has signed with the Indianopolis Colts; he will be missed. Our Offensive Line Coach, Bob Wylie, has signed with the Denver Broncos, so we’ll need to replace him.
That’s about it for now.
Jim Wolf is a member of the Clique Canada team and will be kicking his brother’s rear in golf this summer.
